DESCRIPTION

By blocking 3 to 7 f-stops, you can use wider apertures in low variable light for shallower depth of field effects, and slower shutter speeds for long exposure effects without overexposing your images. Videographers can use our ND8–128 Variable ND Filter Plus+ to create more cinematic effects in low to bright light.

Our Plus+ range features 20 layers of nano-coating providing easier cleaning and better protection against water, oil, and scratches. These layers also provide a higher maximum light transmission and a more consistent transmission curve for truer light reduction.

Find your filter size
Inquisitively search lens for diameter symbol. Ø often marks the spot. The diameter you seek may be accompanied by a number – Ø58 or Ø58mm. Look to the side and the front – this precious number is your filter size. Be warned: your lens focal length (e.g. 18-55mm) is not your filter size.

Which Variable ND Filter should I buy?

It depends on the conditions you’ll be shooting in and the effects you want to achieve.

Our Variable ND2-32 is made for low-light, our Variable ND2-400 and ND8-128 are for low-light and bright light, and our ND64-1000 is specifically for harsh bright light and long exposure.

Should I buy a fixed or variable ND filter?

It depends on how, where and what you’ll be shooting.

Fixed ND filters block a fixed f-stop of light from entering your camera. Variable ND filters provide more flexibility and have a range of f-stops you can block by rotating the outer element. If you’re starting out with ND filters, we recommend a Variable ND so you have more flexibility while you’re learning how to shoot with an ND. If the light is likely to change often, a Variable ND saves you changing between fixed NDs each time.

Do Urth ND filters have a colour cast?

No, they have great colour neutrality.

There are a couple of reasons your images may show a slight colour cast when using an ND filter. Check your white balance settings. By restricting the light entering your camera, it may throw out your white balance settings. Manually adjust your white balance settings to reduce any colour cast.

What’s the best Variable ND filter for wide-angle and telephoto lenses?

If your lens takes a 67mm Urth Variable ND Filter, your 67mm lens cap will fit perfectly. Some variable ND filters require you to step-up a size, but not Urth.

Excellent ND Filter!

I’m newer to the video side of things, but I ordered the 3-7 stop hoping it would be the sweet spot for my lenses, and I’m happy to report it’s exactly what I was looking for. I really didn’t want to have to buy two separate NDs, so this 3-7 range was perfect. From what I’ve seen so far, the image quality looks great, no severe vignetting, no real color casting that I can see. I opted for the +filter for the higher quality and I’m very happy with it so far! I would definitely recommend taking a look if your in the market for a quality ND! I was considering getting one of the more expensive, gold ring NDs out there from the other brand (you know which one I’m talking about), but I’m glad I went this route instead. You won’t be disappointed.

Works very well :-)

Works very well and have no problem with turning the wheel. However with my variable filter nd2-400 one thing I would change is making the turning circle little bit smaller as my front hood doesn't fit after placing the filter. I could of course put fist the hood and then install filter but it makes the job more difficult, especially if you want to change the filter fast. :-)

Excellent product

This build quality is fantastic, there are also indicators on the rotating element to easily adjust for full stops. The range is good and sufficient for many different conditions.

I haven't noticed any vignetting or color casting yet, so I'm very pleased with the product.
